Sudhakar Chippa is a multi-disciplinary artist from Hyderabad. He holds a Post Diploma in Printmaking from MS University of Baroda and a Diploma in Painting from JNT University, Hyderabad. Chippa taught printmaking in the Painting Department at JNT University for 13 years. He has a dozen solo shows to his credit held at major cities in India, most recently at Gallery Veda at Chennai in 2013. He has been included in international group shows and has participated in a number of workshops and art camps nationally and internationally. He has received several scholarships, including the Junior Fellowship from the Ministry of Human Resource Development in 1998, 2000, 2006 and 2008. He was an artist-in-residence at Kanoria Centre for Arts, Ahmedabad in 1999.
Although Chippa is trained in painting and printmaking, he successfully navigates a three-dimensional form that exhibits the drama of his dreams. Dreams have a profound influence on memories and he depicts these in his hyper-realistic sculptures. His work presents the intangible process of pictorial imagination in a recognizable form. In the sculpture The Winged Man the materiality of the feathered wings forms a surreal juxtaposition with the machinery embedded in the human form. The figure seems poised for take off on an imaginative flight.
