Raag – A Metaphor for Reflection
What makes an artwork? This question extends beyond the constructed space, form, composition and hues. It leads us to a deeper enquiry, towards the soul of the painting that which has struck us, has captivated us and resonates within us.
In exploring the essence of art, we encounter varied specks of emotion, expression, response, and thought, which pulls us further into the play of an artwork, But where does the soul of an artwork originate from? Is it purely skill? Is it metaphor? Do we imbibe the courage and simplicity to differentiate skills, metaphors and soul from each other? “Raag-a metaphor for reflection within ourselves” This introspection prompts us to ask. Are we truly in tune with our inner selves? The soul of an artwork is not simply acquired; it is developed through the artist’s ongoing engagement with their craft and their own psyche An artist who is in tune with themself brings authenticity to their work, allowing their emotions to flow freely and creating a truthful connection between themselves and the artwork, which seeks no further validation or appreciation
It is through this connection that art becomes a powerful medium for reflection and transformation, both for the creator and the onlooker-rasika In this exhibition I urge you to explore how the soul of the artwork, which may be present, invites you to resonate with itself, urging you to reflect on your own inner selves and the perennial question is it art?
